About this piece
Antique divided-back postcard captioned "Methodist Church, Minot, N.D.", showing the red brick church with its square corner tower, tall stained glass windows and stone foundation, with an early open touring car parked at the curb and neighboring houses and a church spire beyond. Card number 40303, "Pub. for Solien Co. 5 & 10c Store, Minot, N.D.", with the Octochrome name along the divider. Standard size, about 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Used condition with staining at the upper right over part of the caption, a stain spot at the bottom edge, corner rounding and general edge wear and toning.
Postally used with a Minot, N. Dak. machine cancel (date partly legible as Jul 17) and a green 1 cent Washington stamp. The ink message is headed "Minot N. Dak. July 17, 1916" to "Dear Nancy", thanking her for a baby's picture and describing a package of homemade candy, cake and fritters from the girls at home. Addressed to Mrs. Nancy Blair, Effingham, Ills., R. 1 Box 9.
A good small-city North Dakota church view with an early automobile and a chatty period message.
