About this piece
Bedtime Stories for Adults by Archie Campbell, the Grand Ole Opry comedian later famous on Hee Haw — a vintage softcover joke book, approximately 8.4 x 10.7 inches, signed in blue ink by Archie Campbell across his full-page portrait inside. Undated; the introduction's Lyndon Johnson reference suggests a mid-1960s printing. Condition is well-loved: cover creasing and corner wear, scuffing, staining and ripples to the back page, and a pencil notation at the bottom of page 3.
The introduction page carries several additional ink signatures from the same period, including what read as Gayle Robin and Monty Llewellyn plus others partially legible, and another bold felt-tip signature on the rear page. None of the signatures are authenticated and the book is sold as-is on that basis; the ink appears hand-applied, with pen pressure visible, but I cannot rule out secretarial signatures.
Campbell's introduction is pure Opry stage humor — he credits his jokes as stolen from Homer and Jethro, Grandpa Jones, Porter Wagoner, Bob Hope, Jack Benny, Chet Atkins and Lyndon Johnson — and the book includes a photo of Homer & Jethro. A fun piece of classic Nashville country-comedy ephemera for the Opry collector.
