RPPC Palacio do Exercito Rio de Janeiro Brazil Army Headquarters 1940s Postcard — photo 1 of 2

About this piece

Real photo postcard (RPPC) of the Palacio do Exercito (army headquarters building) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with "Rio de Janeiro" and "Palacio do Exercito" printed in white on the image. Front shows the stepped modernist tower and long office wings, bare trees, street lamps, overhead wires and a "Loteria Federal" storefront sign at lower left. Standard 3.5 x 5.5 in with white border, not mailed, with a 1948 handwritten message. Good vintage condition with corner and edge wear, light soiling, and a small white mark on the image at lower center.

The back carries a full handwritten note dated July 23, 1948, from Florence Ford to "Mrs. Oscity" (as read), thanking her for remembering a birthday and saying the card was brought back from Rio de Janeiro "last summer," that the building is the general headquarters for the army, and that it shows "how modern the architecture is in the beautiful city of Rio." No postmark or stamp; a partial vertical paper or maker imprint is visible at center.

A nice mid-century Rio de Janeiro architecture view with a dated American travel message.
